Nestled in the West Yorkshire countryside lies the bespoke fitted kitchen and utility room we designed for the Linthwaite project. Keen to create a contemporary, open-plan kitchen that would stand the test of time, our clients decided to remove some existing walls to create a blank canvas to work with, and called on Daval to help bring their kitchen design ideas to life.
Cabinetry: Pembroke (kitchen) and Salcombe (utility room)
Colour: Porcelain & ‘Pitch Black’ (non-standard paint colour)
Worktops: Calacatto Gold Enzo (kitchen) and Eternal Marquina (bar and utility)
Cabinetry Hardware: Daval Satin Brass Knurled Bar and Knob handle
What was your vision for your new kitchen, and what was the space being used for before?
We had been considering a new kitchen for around 12 months prior to commissioning Daval. We wanted to replace the existing room and the project involved taking down the existing kitchen wall and extending the space to create an open plan family television and cinema space. We also decided to include a dedicated laundry and utility room as we didn’t have that space previously.
What was your vision for the kitchen?
It was important to us to create a family entertainment area and an island where we could sit together. Our designer also introduced us to the idea of incorporating a small bar area to create a feature upon entry to the kitchen and to welcome family and friends as they arrive – an idea that we loved!
Aesthetically, we wanted a more modern look but also a scheme that was timeless and wanted the space to feel ever so slightly glamourous without being over the top.
Were there any specific design features on your tick list?
We wanted to change our cooker and hob from a traditional Range cooker to a hob that was integrated into the island, but without an extractor, and we chose a Quooker tap with instant boiling, chilled and sparkling water to futureproof the kitchen.
Space was also key, and we wanted to ensure there was plenty of room to move around the island. An extra dishwasher was also on the list and has since proved invaluable for when we’re entertaining family and friends.
How did Daval help bring your kitchen design to life?
Daval were excellent in their approach to make sure all our wish list was fulfilled. With the island being our number one design wish, James helped us specify an integrated Bora hob with built-in cook-top extraction, which meant we didn’t need an extractor above the island.
We also incorporated two Neff ovens with hide and slide doors that were integrated into a dedicated run of cabinetry that also houses our integrated microwave oven and warming drawer.
We chose to go with a dark colour on the island and cabinetry that housed our ovens, and Daval’s colour matching service helped us to match the Pitch Black colour we chose as a special order outside of their standard colour range.
Our designer also took the time to travel with us to choose our quartz worktops to ensure we had exactly what we wanted for the whole scheme.
Can you tell us your favourite part of the kitchen?
We are thrilled with the quality of the Pembroke cabinetry we chose. They are simply stunning and extra touches like the island pilasters and cornices give the kitchen a truly bespoke finish. When all the quartz worktops went in the kitchen felt complete and the result is stunning. We’re also extremely happy with the colours we chose – the bespoke Pitch Black and Porcelain work together so well.
Do you feel you have achieved your vision for your kitchen with the finished result?
Absolutely. It has been lovely to welcome our friends to enjoy what feels like a whole new home!
The finished kitchen exceeds our original expectations, and we are thrilled with how everything came together and the colours we chose. We’ve loved sharing this space with all our friends and family who have been brimming with compliments.
We’re very happy we chose Daval who have helped give us the beautiful kitchen we had long hoped for.
“What we’ve helped our clients achieve at the Linthwaite project has completely changed the way they use their kitchen. It’s now an open-plan, light-filled space that works equally as well for hosting groups of friends at the bar as it does for a relaxed glass of wine sat at the island while cooking. The depth of colour from the bespoke Pitch Black cabinetry contrasts beautifully with the lighter Porcelain shade, and the brushed gold hardware finished the luxe aesthetic perfectly.”
