Our clients’ home forms one-quarter of a Grade II listed manor house nestled in the village of Honley, just outside Huddersfield.
After moving in 2018 and spending the time since completely renovating the rest of the property, the kitchen transformation would be the final piece of the design puzzle.
Our clients commissioned us to help them create a luxury kitchen with complimentary pantry and utility room to completely transform the space.

When did you first start to think about a new kitchen and what was your vision for the space?
Our kitchen was the missing piece of the puzzle for the house. For three years, we had lived with a space that didn’t really meet our needs and wasn’t giving us the living and entertaining space we really wanted. It wasn’t in keeping with the architecture of our home, and we knew that – with some help from Daval – we could create something really special.
Our vision was to achieve a finished kitchen, pantry and utility room that worked as one flowing space that blended practicality with aesthetics to give us a space that was fit for everyday tasks while also being special enough to host friends and family for dinner, drinks and special occasions.
Were there any specific design features on your tick list?
We loved the idea of having a walk-in pantry leading into a utility room, and so we chose to convert the garage to create these two spaces. In the utility room, we wanted to house a washing machine and dryer, as well as a second sink and we also wanted to create a dog shower to use after muddy winter walks.
An island was a major design feature that we wanted to include, as we wanted to create a kitchen where we could sit and catch up on an evening while we cooked, and also sit with guests. After seeing some of Daval’s other projects, we also liked the idea of having a breakfast pantry to give us a dedicated area to have a coffee machine, microwave, cereals etc.
Additional worktop space was key too, as we felt our outgoing kitchen didn’t have enough, particularly at either side of the oven, which was frustrating when cooking and preparing meals.
How did Daval help bring your kitchen design to life?
We worked closely with James to make sure that every element of the kitchen was exactly how we imagined it. For example, we knew we wanted a certain style of open shelving in the pantry, and this was translated into our finished design exactly as we imagined. James was also great at suggesting design features that we might not have otherwise considered, for example using a thicker 60mm worktop on the central island to make a real feature of it – which looks fantastic!
Other design features that we were able to specify with James during the design process included a seating area with featuring panelling in the utility room which we really wanted to have, and a breakfast pantry to house our microwave and give us a space for making coffee and cereal on a morning.
Do you feel you have achieved your vision for your kitchen with the finished result?
We are absolutely delighted with our finished kitchen, pantry and utility room. The design has completely transformed how we use the space, and we now spend so much more of our time in the kitchen because we have a beautiful island we can eat and entertain at.
The pantry has created a real ‘wow’ feature that we receive so many compliments about, but it also gives us further practical storage space in addition to the kitchen, which is great. We didn’t have a utility room prior to this project, so having this dedicated space to do the washing and sort out the after muddy walks is an absolute game-changer.
“The High Royd project is a brilliant example of how reconfiguring a space can totally transform a home. Our clients chose to convert what was their garage to give them an additional two rooms – a pantry and utility room – and it was a pleasure to be able to design the cabinetry for this stunning project. Our Oakley cabinetry in the combination of Putty and Charcoal throughout the space works exceptionally well and delivers a stunning overall scheme.”
